WeRoster vs Droppah
Two New Zealand rostering tools for cafes, retail and hospitality. Here's an honest look at where each one fits.
The short version
Droppah is made by FlexiTime, the Wellington company behind PayHero. It is free for up to 10 employees, has AI scheduling, a photo time clock and point of sale integrations, which makes it a great pick for small hospitality teams. WeRoster is a simple weekly roster with availability, leave, national public holidays, wage costs and clock-in, priced as one flat monthly plan for your team size. Once you have more than 10 staff or several stores with their own managers, WeRoster is usually the simpler and cheaper fit.
Who is each one best for?
WeRoster is a good fit if
- You have more than 10 staff and want one flat monthly price
- You run several stores with owners, managers and employees in separate roles
- You like building the week yourself on a clear 15-minute grid
- You want staff to use it in their phone browser, with nothing to install
Droppah is a good fit if
- You have 10 or fewer employees and want a free plan
- You already use PayHero, or want Square, Clover or Lightspeed sales in your rostering
- You want AI to draft the roster from skills, availability and costs
- You want native iOS and Android apps with team chat
How do the prices compare?
WeRoster has one monthly price for your team size. Droppah is free for small teams, then charges per employee per month.
| Team size | WeRoster | Droppah |
|---|---|---|
| 5 staff | $15 (Mini) | Free |
| 10 staff | $15 (Mini) | Free |
| 25 staff | $25 (Basic) | $100 (The Works) |
| 50 staff | $39 (Standard) | $200 (The Works) |
Monthly list prices in NZ dollars. Droppah figures use its published NZ prices, assuming every employee is rostered that month (Droppah only charges for employees who were rostered or had timesheets). Droppah also has a Time Clock plan at $2 per employee per month without rostering. WeRoster's annual billing gives you one month free, and every plan includes every feature; see WeRoster pricing.

Where does WeRoster do things differently?
A flat price that doesn't grow with every hire
One monthly price from $15, with every feature on every plan. Your bill only changes when your team moves into the next size band, so a busy summer with a few extra casuals does not add up per head.
Multi-store roles built in
Owners, managers and employees each see what their role allows, and owners decide whether managers can see wages. Staff who work at several of your stores keep one login and count once on your plan. See owners, managers and employees.
A simple 15-minute grid
You see the whole week on one grid, with availability, approved leave and public holidays shown as you go, and wage costs updating as you add shifts. Copy last week, adjust, then publish and notify everyone in one click. See the roster editor.
Nothing for staff to install
Staff use WeRoster in their phone's browser to see shifts, set availability, request leave and clock in. They also get their shifts by email and can add them to their calendar app.
Support from the people who build it
Email [email protected] and a real person from the WeRoster team replies, whichever plan you're on. Read more about who builds WeRoster.
WeRoster vs Droppah: common questions
Is Droppah free?
Droppah has a free plan for up to 10 employees that includes almost everything in its paid plan. Above that, its NZ pricing page lists The Works at $4 per employee per month, charged only for employees who were rostered or had timesheets that month.
Is WeRoster cheaper than Droppah?
For teams of 10 or fewer, Droppah's free plan costs less. For bigger teams, WeRoster's flat plans usually cost less: for example $25 a month for 25 staff, compared with $100 a month on Droppah The Works. See WeRoster pricing.
Do WeRoster and Droppah both handle NZ public holidays?
Yes. Both add New Zealand public holidays automatically. WeRoster shows national public holidays, including Matariki and Mondayised days, on the roster. Droppah also adds regional holidays when you set a province. Read our guide to rostering on NZ public holidays.
Which should I choose for my cafe or shop?
If you have a small team and want a free tool, or you already use PayHero, Droppah is a good choice. If you have more than 10 staff, run several stores with separate managers, or want one flat price that does not grow with each hire, WeRoster is worth trying free for 14 days.
How do I switch from Droppah to WeRoster?
Start a free trial, create your store, add your staff (they get an email invitation) and build your first week. After that, copy each week forward and adjust it. The getting started guide walks through it.
